Gin Rummy Variants
Oklahoma Gin
A popular variant of Gin Rummy in which the the first up-card is used to set the level at which you can knock. So, for example, if the up card is 8, players can knock at 8 or under. In the case that the up card is an Ace, no knocking is allowed, and you must play all out for Gin. If the up card is a J, Q or K, players need 10 points to knock. An additional twist is the suit of the upcard. If the up card is a Spade, the hand will count for double.
Hollywood Gin
This is a way of scoring, not a Gin rummy variant per se. In Hollywood Gin scoring is kept for 3 different games at the same time. Your first win will be recorded in their column in the first game. Your second win will be noted in their columns for both the first and the second game your 3rd win will be noted in their column for all games.
You play until all three games are finished.
Single match
Players will continue to play until someone reaches 100 points or over. This player is the winner.
Multi-match
In multi-matches, 'match scores' are set back to 0 at the beginning of each match while the 'game scores' build until a preset number is reached - say 1000. Each match comes to an end when someone scores 100 match points. At the end of the match, match scores are added to the game scores, and in addition you get:
25 game points for each seperate round won,
100 game points to the match winner and
100 bonus game points to the winner of the match if the other player wins no rounds.
